Are all sun care products the same?

The answer can be summed up in one word: No. It is strongly recommended that you opt fornatural rather than synthetic supplements, as they are better assimilated by the body. The right composition to look out for on the label:

• vitamin E to prevent sunburn and melanoma (the fastest-growing skin cancer),
• selenium to reduce the risk of skin, prostate, colon and lung cancer,
• carotenoids (yellow and orange pigments found in many plants) to combat the slight immune suppression caused by exposure to the sun. Beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lycophene, zeaxanthin, lutein... just as they protect the cells of plants exposed to light, they protect human cells from the same enemies.

How can I achieve a successful tan using sun care products?

Do sun care products protect against sunburn? If taken regularly, suncare supplements do indeed protect against sunburn, but only in part. They may be sufficient for walks in town, for example, but not for prolonged exposure to the sun. Lunch on a terrace, an afternoon in the pool, a weekend at the beach or in the mountains. Sunscreen and a hat are still essential. Sun supplements also help prevent the appearance of dark spots on the skin.

When should tanning supplements be taken? Tanning supplements are taken in the morning at breakfast, the time of day when our metabolism is most inclined to fill up on vitamins and minerals. Better still, swallow them with a glass of squeezed lemon to help the body rid itself of toxins (a task already undertaken during the night).
